UV-C Disinfection
The term UV is an abbreviation for the word "ultraviolet". It is about radiation invisible to the eye, scattered by the sun. In popular terms it is ultraviolet light.
UV radiation is composed of:
UVA - 95% of UV that touches the skin
UVB - 5%
UVC - do not touch the Earth's surface
Most UVB radiation is stopped by the epidermis and only 10% reach the deep layers of the skin. Instead, UVA radiation penetrates directly into the deeper layers of the skin, also called the dermis. Immediate pigmentation of the skin after sun exposure and sun allergies are caused by UVA. Sunburn is mainly caused by UVB.
UV-C radiation is a disinfectant known for air, surfaces, objects and water, which contributes greatly to reducing the risk of infection. UV-C disinfection methods have been used extensively in any industry for over 40 years. All bacteria and viruses tested so far (including various coronaviruses) respond to UV-C disinfection.
In laboratory tests, UV-C light sources inactivated the SARS-CoV-2 virus 99%, on a surface with an exposure time of only 6 seconds.
