SAO Technology
Ozone is one of the most powerful oxidants known to man.
The strong antimicrobial character of ozone is partly related to its oxidation-reduction potential (2.07 V), which is higher than that of chlorine (1.36 V). This makes it 50% stronger than chlorine and up to 3000 times faster destroying microorganisms.
Ozone destroys microorganisms by reacting with cellular components capable of oxidation, especially those containing double bonds, sulfhydryl groups and phenolic rings.
Therefore, membrane phospholipids, intracellular enzymes, proteins and genomic material are targeted by ozone; these reactions lead to cell damage and the death of microorganisms.
Ozone destroys viruses by diffusing through the protein layer into the nucleic acid nucleus, resulting in damage to the viral RNA.
At higher concentrations, ozone destroys the capsid or outer protein shell by oxidation, so that the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) or RNA (ribonucleic acid) structures of the microorganism are affected.
With the help of electricity the oxygen atom O combined with the oxygen molecule O2 forms the ozone molecule O3. From this additional oxygen atom all the cleaning power is obtained.
